Although Omaha Poker can be a difficult game to become good at, it's quite easy to learn.
Before you start, established your betting limit. Normally the limit won't go any lower than $2/4, and it may go as high as 5/10 or 10/20. Designate a player to serve as dealer. He will be last during all betting rounds. You'll use a signifying marker (i.e., a "button") to indicate who the dealer is. This button rotates to the left each hand. Rather than using an ante to start each round as in some poker games, players make blind bets to create the starting pot (much the same as in Hold 'em). The player just to the dealer's left puts in the small blind, which is half of whatever you have decided the minimum bet will be. If it's a 10/20 game, for instance, the small blind will be $5. The big blind, on the other hand, equals the minimum bet (in this case, $10). It's posted by the person just to the left of the one who made the small blind. Nobody else puts up until the next round. The dealer gives each player four cards, facing down. He always deals in a clockwise direction. After the cards are dealt, the player to the left of the big blind can either Call the blind bet (by putting in, in our example above, $10) or he can raise it (In our example game, by putting in $20). Otherwise, if he feels his hand is poor, he folds. Betting continues until it comes to the small blind, who can either call or fold. When it comes back to the big blind, if nobody has raised, he can either raise or do nothing (In which case, he announces "check"). Now the dealer places three cards face up on the table; these are called "the Flop." The Flop are community cards that everyone can use in conjunction with their own hand. For instance, if you have two Aces in your hand and there are two Aces in the Flop, you can use those to make four of a kind. After the Flop has been made, bidding starts again with the first player to the dealer's left, with the minimum in our example game again $10. Players may again raise, fold, or check. When this round of bidding is done, the dealer turns over another card (called, appropriately, the "Turn Card"). This one is also a community card. Bidding goes a third time, but now the minimum bet doubles (In our example game, $20). Once betting has finished for the Turn, the dealer places a fifth card face up, known as "the River." Bidding for this final card is again at the $20 level. Now each player must determine what his hand is. To do so, he must use two of his own cards and three of the community cards.
