For the poker player who likes trying something a little bit different, Razz Poker is the perfect game. The game play is quite similar to Seven Card Stud--but turned inside-out. Instead of trying to get the highest hand, the object is to get the lowest hand. As with regular 7-Card stud, up to eight can play, but it's better with no more than six. Select a dealer, and before the cards are dealt, decide on a minimum bet. The game is starts with an ante. This first bid is 1/5 of the minimum bet. The dealer then gives each player two cards face down and one face up. The player with high card starts the bidding--and again, this bid must be 1/5 of the minimum bet. As an example, if you're playing a $5/$10, this indicates that $5 is the minimum bid. So this first bid, like the pre-hand ante, is $1. After the first player bids, bidding continues in a clockwise direction. Any player may either see that bid (pay the same amount), fold (quit the hand) or raise (increase the amount of the bid). If anyone bids, bidding goes around again, giving every player the opportunity to either match the bid, fold, or raise it again. The dealer now deals a fourth card face up to each player. Bidding goes as before, but the bid must be at least the minimum bid (In the example above, $5). The dealer then deals another card face up to everyone left in the hand, followed by more betting. However, now bidding goes to the higher set limit (In this example, $10). Step 4: Deal one card face up to each player. This is called 'fourth street.' Place bets again if you wish to remain in the game. The bet limit is the low bet amount ($5 in this example). The dealer then gives a sixth card to the remaining players, again face up. Bets go as they did on the fifth card, at the higher limit. Then finally, the dealer gives the remaining players a seventh card, but this time, face down. One last time, bids are entered at the higher limit. When all bidding is complete, the remaining players turn over all cards to reveal their hands. Lowest hand wins. |
